Arunachala Puranam: Day 7
Continuing the Arunachala Puranam, today as the seventh day of Satsang. As the fourth day Utsavam (festival celebration) of the Karthigai Deepam festival. After the Poorvangam (preliminaries) and the three days of Dwajarahanam (flag hoisting), today the fourth day Utsavam is happening in all KAILASAs around the world and at the Annamalaiyar Temple.
The ten parts of this Arunachala Puranam:
Sargam, Visargam, Vritti which is livelihood/sustenance.
Sargam means primary creation. Visargam means secondary creation. Vritti is livelihood. Raksha is protection. Antarani which is called Manvantara. Vamsam which is called lineages. Vamsanucaritam which is the deeds of the lineage. Samstha which is destruction. Hetu which is the cause. And Karma Apasrayam which is the Supreme Refuge.
Only when these ten are combined is it a Mahapuranam. The Arunachala Puranam possesses these ten. In this, the greatest Jnana truths, Jnana concepts are revealed.
Understand clearly, all these stories—many stories come in this, and I am going to tell those stories. In various Satsangs, I am going to explain those stories. That is, the story of Brahma and Vishnu searching for the feet and crown of Paramashiva. The story of Mother doing penance and attaining the left half. The story of Vajrangada Pandya circumambulating the mountain. The story of Him coming as a son to Vallala Maharaja and bestowing grace.
Like this, rather than calling them various stories, they should be called History. That is the correct word. Because, Puranas are the documentation of what happens in dimensions, exactly as it is, without spoiling, destroying, or corrupting it with one’s personal opinion.
More than any history written now, more than any media, Puranas are the books that document what happened in the multi-dimensions of the Universe—excellent texts where the measure of Truth is complete, not diminishing by even a grain, filled fully with Truth.
In this, Vyasa documents various dimensions. While documenting those dimensions, he tells various truths, realities, Universal truths, and realities. That is the Jnana Padam (Chapter on Wisdom). The Jnana Padam consists of the extremely subtle secret truths told in this Purana.
The Story of Musukunda Chakravarthy
For example, Musukunda Chakravarthy of Tiruvarur went to Devaloka (World of Devas). He stood in war for Indra and won for him. He received Tyagaraja Peruman (Lord Tyagaraja) from Indra and returned.
If you know this much, it is Purana. But if you read it deeply: For what reason was Musukunda Chakravarthy able to easily go into another portal, another vertical time zone, another dimension along with his army retinue? Then, for what reason did he win?
There is a beautiful description in that. If you had read that Purana a little, you could relish this.
After winning in the war, Indra asks Musukunda Chakravarthy: “Friend, through the help you rendered me, you have become a close friend who gave me boundless joy. Therefore, ask for anything, I will give.” Indra says.
Immediately, Indra describes the choices—what all he has. The immense treasury of Kuberapuri. The ever-youthful celestial maidens like Rambha, Menaka, Urvashi, who possess youth and beauty that never fades. He shows all of this like this. The Swarna river (Golden river) that flows with gold.
Musukunda Chakravarthy, having listened to everything, says patiently: “Sir, Indra, I have fully gone around and seen this Devaloka. Your servants, whom you appointed to serve me, showed me around Devaloka and explained everything. In this entire Devaloka, there is nothing that exists here but is not in my Chola kingdom.”
“Everything you think of as the pride of Devaloka is abundant in my Chola kingdom. There is only one thing, an object that is in Devaloka but not in my Chola kingdom.”
Indra felt great pride. “Aha! So there is at least one thing in Indraloka that is not in the Chola kingdom! Ask for that which is in Indraloka, I will give it!” Indra says with pride.
Only then Musukunda Chakravarthy says: “In our town, the Lord has risen as an anthill, as a Swayambu Thirumeni (self-manifested form). But here in Devaloka, He has risen as a complete Thirumeni (divine form) with face, hands, and legs. As such a complete Thirumeni, the Lord has risen; we want to do Puja to Him, do service to Him, we want to worship Him. This one thing is the only thing that is in Devaloka but not in the Chola kingdom.”
The Greatness of Musukunda’s Devotion
Look at what kind of personality Musukunda Chakravarthy is! Before this Musukunda Chakravarthy, the entire Devaloka appears very small. Before Musukunda Chakravarthy’s devotion.
A King could have asked for the Kalpavriksha (Wish-fulfilling tree). Could have asked for Kamadhenu (Wish-fulfilling cow). Could have asked for Parijata. Could have asked for Dhanvantari. Could have asked for celestial maidens. Could have asked for anything.
In the hymns of the Alwars, there is a beautiful song:
“Pachaima malai pol meni…
Pavala vaai kamala chengan
Achutha amarar yere… ayartham kozhundhe ennum
Ichuvai thavira yaan poi Indira logamaalum
Achuvai perinum vendene Arangama nagarulane”
(Meaning: Even if offered the rule of Indra’s world, I do not want it over the taste of praising the Lord of Srirangam).
He sings thus. That can be seen exactly as an Anubhuti (experience) in Musukunda Chakravarthy’s life. Just as the Alwar dissolved in devotion and sang as a song, those words can be seen exactly in Musukunda Chakravarthy’s experience.
Actually, if Musukunda Chakravarthy had asked, “Give me this Devaloka,” Devendra (Indra) could not have said no. The reason is, that Devaloka itself has now been conquered and saved only by Musukunda Chakravarthy. Not only that, Devendra gives a promise: “Ask for anything, I will give,” he has promised. So, if he said, “Give Devaloka,” he couldn’t say no.
But look at what Musukunda Chakravarthy chooses.
“Kunitha puruvamum kovai sevvaayir kumin sirippum
Panitha sadaiyum pavalam pol meniyil paal vennirum
Inithamudan edutha porpaadhamum kaana petraal
Manitha piraviyum venduvathe intha manilathe”
(Meaning: If one gets to see the arched eyebrow, the smile on the reddish lips, the matted locks, the milk-white ash on the coral-like body, and the golden foot raised in sweet dance, then human birth is indeed desirable on this great earth).
The sentiment that Appar Peruman expresses. The sentiment that the Alwar expresses in the song “Pachaima malai pol meni.” The sentiment Appar Peruman expresses in “Kunitha puruvamum kovai sevvaayir kumin sirippum.” One can see that Musukunda Chakravarthy possesses this as a tangible life experience (Anubhuti).
“You give the Lord’s Thirumeni, Tyagaraja. That is enough. We will keep it and do Puja to it.”
Actually, Musukunda Chakravarthy has asked for the life of Devaloka. Musukunda Chakravarthy shines here as one filled with the highest supreme devotion and the supreme clarity and supreme strategy that comes from supreme devotion.
Because Musukunda Chakravarthy knows very well: If the prosperity of the Chola kingdom is to remain permanent like the prosperity of Devaloka, it is enough if this Tyagaraja comes to the Chola kingdom; he knew that.
Therefore, Musukunda Chakravarthy, thinking that this prosperity, tradition, and the fertile Chola country should not end or diminish with him, and that this legacy, this lineage, and the history of the lineage should shine permanently, does the right deed. He brings Tyagaraja Peruman.
Whoever thinks that your organization should remain permanently filled with all prosperity—Politicians, if you think your country should remain permanently filled with all prosperity like that… filled with all prosperity, your community, your clan, your government, your country, your party, your Kazhagam, your institutions, your business places—if you think they should shine, all of you go to Tiruvarur Tyagaraja at least once and perform the Musukunda Archana.
I have asked for the Musukunda Archana to be done on behalf of Kailasa. Understand well. I will not say anything unnecessary or wrong or half-true.
Just as Tiruvarur Tyagesa Peruman kept Devaloka with all fullness, similarly, if you think your life, your institution, your business, your organization—perhaps if you are the leader of a caste party, your caste, your clan; perhaps if you are the leader of a social movement, your social movement; perhaps if you are the leader of a spiritual movement, your spiritual movement; perhaps if you are the leader of a government, your government, your country—should be with all prosperities, powers, and welfare like Devaloka, perform the Musukunda Archana to Tiruvarur Tyagaraja and worship.
My Personal Experience with Tyagaraja
A few days ago, the Lord appeared in Darshan and He Himself showed me this Truth. He Himself held my hand, took me, and made me have the Darshan of Tiruvarur.
Sir, understand well. In my life, the only God I prostrate flat (Saashtanga Namaskaram) before is Annamalaiyar only. Before anyone else—I will go to all temples; I won’t stay away from temples. I will worship meltingly. In the hundreds of temples I myself built, in the thousands of meditation centers where we have consecrated deities, I will go to all of them, forget myself, merge with the Lord, and melt in devotion. But prostrating flat, doing Saashtanga Namaskaram, is only in Tiruvannamalai. I won’t fall anywhere else. I won’t fall and worship anywhere else.
In Madurai, after this Sannidhanam (referring to himself) was crowned (Pattabhishekam), our Periya Sannidhanam took me to the 292 temples, to the Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple. Took me and had the Darshan done; everything went well. Very… Meenakshi and Chokkanathar… such a sweet Darshan. Dissolved in devotion, melted, bubbling… I saw Mother, Thayar, very closely from nearby and dissolved.
As soon as we came in front of the Kodimaram (flagstaff), he did Saashtanga Namaskaram. I am just standing. He finished his Namaskaram, got up, stood, and signaled with his eyes, “Do it.”
For me? Because until now in life, I have never done Saashtanga Namaskaram anywhere. Except for Annamalayan (Lord of Annamalai), I have never done Saashtanga Namaskaram in any other place. Here, Sannidhanam is signaling with his eyes, “First, do Namaskaram.”
I am blinking, “Thiruthiru,” without answering. Then he says in my ear, “Swami, this is tradition. For the sake of maintaining tradition (Sampradaya Paribalanartham), you must do Namaskaram.”
He treated me with great respect. Understand well. I must record this in history. He did not treat me like a disciple. Because Meenakshi and Sundareswarar themselves came in Darshan and told him to perform the Pattabhishekam, he has documented in the public domain that “I am the Sannidhanam chosen by Meenakshi and Sundareswarar.” He has documented it legally in paper, in legal paperwork too. He has said it many times. Openly, he behaved the same way with me too. He treated me that way too. “Swami, you are the Sannidhanam chosen by Meenakshi Sundareswarar. Because He Himself came and did the Pattabhishekam. So, therefore, you must do Namaskaram, Swami,” he says.
I immediately said, “Swami, except Tiruvannamalai, except Annamalaiyar, I have never fallen flat and done Saashtanga Namaskaram anywhere else, Swami.”
He immediately turned, looked and said, “Swami, this is tradition. Our Adheenam’s Atmartha Murthi (personal worship deity) is Meenakshi Sundareswarar only. Therefore, one must do Namaskaram before the Atmartha Murthi. It is tradition.”
Immediately I said, “Oh Lord, what is this test?” As soon as I closed my eyes and stood, Annamalaiyar and Unnamalai Amman appeared right there, blossomed and stood as Meenakshi Sundareswarar. Only upon seeing that… “Aha! Oh Lord!”
Understand well. There is something called Murthi Karpu (Fidelity to the Deity), Deiva Karpu (Fidelity to the God). Sir, that is: those who have accepted Lord Shiva as their Ishta Deivam (Chosen Deity) will not fall flat and worship before any other deity. They will worship, they will do Bhakti, they will be with sincerity, they will be with respect. But this Saashtanga respectful surrender will be for Shiva alone. That is Deiva Karpu, Ishta Deiva Karpu.
Similarly, Vaishnavites, similarly Saars (Smartas/others)—they will have a separate definition for that Ishta Deiva Karpu for their respective traditions.
Beyond my Ishta Deiva Karpu for every tradition, Thirumeni Karpu—Fidelity to the Idol—is only to the Annamalaiyar Thirumeni. That Thirumeni seated in that Annamalai, Tiruvannamalai. That Murthi. The fidelity (Karpu) pledged only to Him. Not falling flat and worshipping anywhere else.
But here, for the sake of maintaining tradition, it must be done. Not only that, Meenakshi and Sundareswarar themselves sought, They themselves chose and performed the Pattabhishekam. Another thing, fundamentally, the Supreme Truth is known well: Meenakshi-Sundareswarar and Annamalayan-Unnamalai Amman are One. The Lord risen in two Thirumenis. In Annamalai as Arunachaleswarar, in Madurai as Chokkanathar. In Annamalai as Unnamulaiyal, in Madurai as Mother Meenakshi. They have risen.
The consciousness knows. The consciousness knows. But in the body, that Karpu (fidelity) has been built. For so many years, the body is filled and ripened in that fidelity. Bhakti has blossomed as fidelity. So what to do?
“Maintenance of tradition. Tradition should not be violated either.” Thinking thus, saying “Oh Lord,” I stood remembering Him. As I stood, He gave Darshan exactly like that. Only after He gave it, we fell flat and worshipped.
Understand well. Similarly, after that, in a few places, the Lord directly—Annamalayan and Unnamalai Amman, my Atmartha Murthi, my Ishta Deivam, and my Jnana Guru who graced me with Paramadwaitam—for all of you Annamalaiyar is God to some; for me, Guru and God, both are Him.
He came as Arunagiri Yogishwara, gave the Paramadwaita Anubhuti, gave Paramashiva Jnana and Vijnana, and bestowed the Anubhuti. He Himself remained as the Paramporul (Supreme Substance) and made me get established in that Anubhuti. Therefore, Saashtanga Namaskaram is only to Him.
Puranas explain very clearly about Arunagiri Yogishwara. He is not imagination. He Himself is seated permanently as a Yogi in Tiruvannamalai. Ramana Maharshi has had Darshan of that form. The Lord showed and graced me.
Lalate Tripundri Nidila Krutha Kasthuri Tilaka… Sphuran Maladhara… Sphuritha Kadi Kaupina Vasana… Dadhaano Dusthaaram Sirasi Phani Rajam Sasikalam… Pradeepasarvesham Arunagiri Yogi Vijayate.
The structure, the form in which Arunagiri Yogishwara exists, how the Lord is seated as Arunagiri Yogishwara in Tiruvannamalai through this Yoga, is explained very clearly. His Sannidhi (shrine) is still there as a Mantapam in the third Prakaram of Tiruvannamalai. His Thirumeni has been carved as a bas-relief sculpture.
It is at that spot He gave me Darshan. Under the Kalpavriksha. On the southern slope of Tiruvannamalai, towards the western side. Understand well. Tiruvannamalai southern mountain slope. If you see the mountain from above, you will understand. Drone view. Look in this Google Earth view, you will understand. West side, at that place facing the South direction. If you see, there will be a huge Banyan tree. Physically, nobody can go near it. That is directly the Kalpavriksha. The Kalpavriksha that is in Kailasa itself. They brought that tree and planted it here.
Only under that, this Lord Arunagiri Yogishwara sits and teaches in eternal silence (Sada Mounam), gives Darshan. Today, Annamalayan graces on this Kalpavriksha Vahanam as Arunagiri Yogishwara.
Now, this Thirumeni you are seeing is a bas-relief sculpture. If you want to see this as a fully explained Thirumeni, look at Periya Nayagar. Periya Nayagar is exactly… how Arunagiri Yogishwara was when He gave me Darshan, exactly like that, He rises as Periya Nayagar, the Utsava Murthi of Tiruvannamalai.
In this Madurai, the Lord gave me Darshan and said, “We Ourselves are here,” and told me to do Namaskaram. Like that, after that, only in one or two places, if He Himself gives Darshan and tells me to do Namaskaram, I do it. Know this.
Now, a few days ago—I am speaking the Truth, do not doubt. I speak no lies, I speak no fraud—The Lord Himself came, held my hand, took my soul, and made me have the full Arur Darshan (Tiruvarur), made me have the Darshan of Tyagesar, showed “We Ourselves are here.” After coming back around there, I know well the Darshan is going on, the Lord Himself is bringing and showing. Again, as soon as I stood before Tyagaraja, I folded my hands. The Lord says, “Fall and worship.”
I look up. Again, the Lord Himself appeared there, Annamalayan Himself appeared and gave Darshan as Tyageswara; only then I fell and worshipped.
Now I have asked for the Musukunda Archana to be done on behalf of Kailasa. Whoever believes in me, my devotees, disciples—if you think your institutions, your life should be with all prosperities like Devaloka, do the Musukunda Archana to Arur Tyagesar, Lord Tyagaraja, and worship.
Understand well. Otherwise, about another Shiva Sthalam (shrine)… you would have heard me speaking about it very rarely. Because, I am one who possesses not just Deiva Karpu but Thirumeni Karpu.
I tell you a truth. Even now, Vibhuti (Sacred Ash) must come from Tiruvannamalai. Here in Kailasa, we ourselves make Vibhuti. I myself perform Abhishekam. Daily in Atmartha Puja, only after doing Vibhuti Abhishekam, we give Prasadam to lakhs of devotees; we send Thiruneeru (Sacred Ash) Prasadam. Everyone knows how popular Nithyananda Vibhuti is. But the Thiruneeru I smear on my forehead must come after being done Abhishekam to Annamalaiyar.
Even now, Abhishekam happens in Tiruvannamalai… And another thing, I wish to record here. I think I have recorded this when speaking about this. The Tiruvannamalai Sivacharyars and the temple staff, those who work, may all of them live well forever. They are the embodiment of sweetness and love. Even during the Corona time, when no one was allowed inside the temple correctly, saying “Need Thiruneeru for smearing on the forehead,” they would perform Abhishekam, bring the Thiruneeru Prasadam and give it. Without fail, without break.
The staff of the Annamalaiyar temple… starting from all levels of staff, starting from the Maniyakkarar to the higher level Thakkar, above that the Dharmakartha and officials, government-appointed officials, and Sivacharyars—all of them. Because of the service, the Thirupani, the Seva they do in the temple of Tiruvannamalai… because there is a sweet friendship, relationship, and love mixed relationship with me… truly, I didn’t do anything for that relationship. They hold a love without reason.
Without fail, they will send Tiruvannamalai Annamalaiyar’s Abhisheka Thiruneeru. Daily Abhishekam happens, and Prasadam arrives. Truly, bringing that Prasadam, mixing it with the food cooked in our Adheenams, that is what we do Annadanam with. In all our Tiruvannamalai Adheenams.
In Tiruvannamalai, right now, we are doing Nithya Annadanam (daily food offering) permanently in two places. Nithyananda Janmabhoomi Kshetram on Thiruvoodal Street, and Nithyananda Janmabhoomi on the Girivalam path. Now, thirdly, we have bought another property on Peygopura Street and are going to start Annadanam there too.
In the two places where it is happening now, in the Annadanam, Annamalaiyar Temple’s Prasadam… morning Abhishekam happens, that Prasadam comes; mixing that Prasadam with this cooked food, that is what we Annadanam to the devotees.
Therefore, whenever you eat Annadanam in our two Adheenams in Tiruvannamalai, know this: you are eating Annamalaiyar Temple Prasadam only.
I was telling the Tiruvarur story. If we understand that a little deeply: How was Musukunda Chakravarthy able to go to another dimension? All these secret matters are embedded inside that story itself, Sir. What state of feeling, from what space if one operates, can one travel this multi-dimension? All this is embedded in that story itself. It is imprinted in the story itself.
Discovering that, taking it, practicing it, and telling it to the world is Jnana Yoga. Like that, all the Jnana truths told in this Arunachala Puranam, gathering them all, I will tell you all those Jnana truths. If you understand all that, only after that will this story be fully understood. Only then can you believe this story, right?
Now I am speaking from my experience. A huge good thing had to happen for Kailasa. A breakthrough had to happen. As soon as the Lord gave Darshan, made me have Arur Darshan, and blessed me, immediately that breakthrough started happening. The good that was pending, that had to happen, started happening.
That is why I say very boldly: Perform Musukunda Archana and worship. If any breakthrough needs to happen for you, it will happen. If you are stuck somewhere, and a break needs to happen… In your business, a big… or some other… in politics, you are going to stand for election… or whatever… “I want some award,” and you are working thinking that… some award or some success, you are working towards it… If that has to happen, worship Tyagaraja Peruman by performing Musukunda Archana.
Another thing, know this. My devotees, disciples, understand well. Unnecessarily, I will not ask you to spend money. Unnecessarily, without a correct reason, “Spend your time, go to a temple, do a worship,” I will not say. If I say it, it means this will work like medicine. It will give a solution. I am responsible for these words. I am responsible for these words.
Don’t think that as soon as you go and do Musukunda Archana in Tiruvarur temple, some commission comes to me from there. Don’t view everything as business. Go and do it; a huge breakthrough will happen. I have seen it. Because I saw it, I am saying it. That’s all. I am telling my Anubhuti.
Not only that, because the Lord graced me to tell this and ordered it, I am saying it. Sometimes, what stays as Anubhuti, I won’t tell outside. “Okay, that is what the Lord showed us,” I will leave it. But only if the Lord Himself orders, “No, this can be told to others too,” only then will I say. Therefore, I am saying it with correct, chosen, careful words. Good.
The Ten Truths of Arunachala Puranam
Listen deeply. I have churned out such Jnana truths from this Arunachala Puranam. In the next two or three days of Satsang, I will tell you these Jnana truths. After that, I will tell these stories—Sargam, Visargam, Vritti, Raksha, Antarani, Vamsam, Vamsanucaritam, Samstha, Hetu, Apasrayam—I will tell everything. You will understand. Once this context is set, you will understand. It will turn into Anubhuti (experience).
But I am telling this Paramashiva Jnana, Paramashiva Vijnana. Listen. Understand well. It is just ten Truths that I am going to tell you as the essence of the entire Arunachala Puranam. I haven’t taken too many; just ten Truths I am telling. Listen to these ten Truths deeply.
If you practice these ten Truths, the coming 2016… will be a real new life for you. Not a New Year, but a New Life.
To attain 2026—please forgive me—to attain 2026 as a new life, to live it as a new life, imbibe these ten Truths. I am telling only ten Truths. I am not putting a big load on it.
Truth 1: Confront the Stories You Tell Yourself
The First Truth: Confront the stories you tell yourself within your own feelings/consciousness.
Listen deeply. Confront the stories you tell yourself about yourself.
The past is nothing. I said that first itself. The memories you hold now about the past are the karma binding you, the karma, but there is no such thing as “The Past.”
Another important thing: The memories you hold about the past do not truly reflect the past. That is why, Sir, as you grow, as you mature, as your desires and fears change, the collection of memories you hold about your past also changes, Sir.
Listen deeply. You must understand this slightly deeply. Even if you mature in the present, the memories you hold in the present about your past—those files—will be completely changing.
That is why I say: The Past is Dead. The memory records about the past that you keep in the present are the invisible prison that binds you, the prison unseen by the eye.
Listen deeply. If you ask, “Do the memories I hold in the present about the past truly reflect the past?”—No, that is also not there. I say again, it is a moving sand. You are building your foundation, your base, upon that.
Your Identity, Sir… Your Identity is the collection of your past experiences that you hold about yourself. But the foundation of that Identity itself is wrong. A lie.
Manickavasagar Peruman says, right? “Yaane Poi, En Nenjum Poi” (I am a lie, my heart is a lie). That is the Truth.
The reason is, you can see tangibly: your desires mature, fears mature, even phobias mature. Understand well. When desires mature, fears will mature. When that happens, the memories you hold in the present about the past will change. Do not think that all files of the “Past” are there as they are, and you are just retrieving the necessary file. No.
Based on the mental state you have now in the present, you pick some events of the past, weave a movie yourself, and tell a story to yourself.
Please, confront the stories you tell yourself. Confront the stories you tell yourself. Stand a little peacefully apart, look, and take your Jnana seriously.
People who have a search with very deep sincerity, sit and write. The invisible prison controlling you is the stories you tell yourself about yourself, Sir.
Based on past failures, based on fears, based on threats the society imposed on you, based on experiences like failure, grief, and guilt that the past raised within you—the stories you tell yourself based on all these are the invisible prison controlling you.
To say it in English: Recognize your Invisible Prison. Recognize your Invisible Prison.
This narrative you tell yourself about yourself… Only if the words you tell towards yourself about yourself change, will your life change. If you are dreaming that life will change without changing the words you keep telling yourself, there is nothing more foolish than that. This is superstition.
Without the words inside you changing… without the words you tell yourself within yourself—about yourself, towards the Universe, towards your life—changing, life will not change.
Listen a little deeply. First, for everyone who thinks this 2026 should blossom as a new life, what you must do is: The words you tell yourself within yourself towards you, towards the world, towards life, towards the Universe, towards those in your life—must change. That is the first step.
Then, how to change it?
First, recognize what you are saying. What are the stories, the narrations you tell yourself about yourself? Recognize that. After that, you can question it.
After that, which is the true story that fits at least to an extent? Which is truly not true, but you accepted that story as true because of fear? Or accepted that story as true because of habit, because of the habit of fear?
Think well. Sometimes, only if you believe this story is the true story about you, can you come out of certain situations… “I must train myself”… for some such reason, creating some stories about yourself born out of fear… “No, no, only if I am like this can I keep myself under control. Only if I think like this can I keep myself under control.”
Some superstition. Fear-based superstition. Or habit-based superstition. See what stories you are telling yourself keeping these.
The Filter Effect & The Backpack of Rocks
Next, understand this Filter Effect: The story you tell yourself about yourself shapes the very world you see.
This word, you all know. Gen-Z knows it totally. The fabricated stories you hold about yourself act as a Filter Effect, and that decides how you experience your reality, Sir.
- Your limitations block your many possibilities.
- Your self-doubts block your many powers.
Listen deeply. All the truths I am saying, if you sit a little quietly within yourself and listen deeply, you will understand. You can imbibe it.
How, many times, based on a failure caused by fear without reason, based on an event, you bind yourself completely? You put yourself into this Invisible Prison. How that creates Self-Doubt and the Filter Effect, showing your reality to you, controlling you… Look at all this.
If you tie a bundle of a hundred unnecessary black stones, put it in a backpack, and climb a mountain, can you climb? You are living your life like that, Sir.
If you load unnecessary large files on your computer, will the computer function? Delete the whole past, Sir.
Drop the Backpack of Rocks.
Beliefs, guilt, fears, inert states that control you, limit you, reduce your possibilities. Imagining too much about your enemies, about opposition. If you see, all of this is a Backpack of Rocks. Rocks. You are putting rocks in the backpack and trying to climb the mountain. You are trying to conduct your life.
First of all, drop that down.
Understand well. You don’t need to learn something called “Lesson from the Past” separately. Dropping the past is the lesson you need to learn.
“What Swami, what are you saying? Then won’t I do the same mistake again?”
You won’t. Only if you cannot drop the past, you will be doing the same mistake. Making new, new mistakes is Life, Sir.
Understand well. I am telling you openly. Gen-Z, know this. Just don’t make the same mistake again. That’s all. I won’t tell you “Don’t make mistakes” in your life. You cannot exist without making them. Because, which is wrong and which is right—we will know the decision only after living. While living, we won’t know. That is the Truth. That is the Supreme Truth.
Just don’t make the same mistake. That’s all.
That will happen only if you forget the past, throw it away, and keep it aside so the past causes no impact on you.
One who is afraid of mistakes cannot live at all, Sir. Fear is the big mistake, Sir.
Therefore, drop all kinds of self-negative stories that limit you, control you. Only if you drop that, space will be created within you to rewrite your life anew, Sir.
Just as only if you delete old loaded files can you start storing new files in your life, or do new creative work on your device, your computer, your laptop, your phone—it is the same way. Finish deleting the old, Sir. Don’t even keep it in the crash (trash/recycle bin). Delete it from the crash.
Do that, and freshly… stop rehearsing the old inside you again and again for reference or for some other reason. Stop it. Start breathing your life freshly. Only then will you get the space to narrate and write a new life, Sir.
Every day, as soon as you wake up in the morning, say clearly:
“I am New Now. Right Now, I am New. And I am the Ultimate. I am not going to repeat my old stories.”
“The old concepts, old stories I hold about myself—I am not going to repeat them by telling them to myself again and again.” Take this clear decision. This is the first step. You take into freedom.
If you control the story you tell yourself… if you control it consciously, you will consciously control your life.
Truth 2: The Invisible Prison & Inner Silence
I am telling you the Truths, the Paramashiva Jnana, Paramashiva Vijnana that Paramashiva, the Supreme Substance, gave me as Anubhuti (experience) in my life.
I will tell you a small example if you want. Listen.
Among those around you, many people would have said many words about you. Which word hurts you, pierces you very deeply? Or if you are a Gen-Z whose refuge is Social Media, many comments will come on Social Media. Which comment makes it pain deeply, pierce you? Look at that.
That is the narrative you are telling yourself.
Only because some fellow said it from the outside, it hurts from the inside. Understand well. Only if someone from the outside says the narrative that you keep telling yourself, will that word hurt. Otherwise, even if someone from the outside says a narrative that you do not tell yourself, it will not hurt. It will not stand in memory. It will not cause any impact on you.
This is the Truth. This is the first step. For those who think they must live a new life in 2016… in 2026… excuse me, I keep saying 16 16… For everyone who thinks they must live a full life, a new life in 2026, this is the first step.
The Second Step: Please, do not bring this feeling called “I” and interfere. Watch silently what is happening inside your intuition, inside you, inside your mind (Manas), Chitta, Buddhi, inside your Chidakasha.
At least for 20 minutes a day, sit silently and just watch what is happening inside you, what is inside you, Sir. Observe your consciousness from deep silence, from supreme peace.
Then what will happen is… Sir, ocean waves… only if you go below the noise, chaos, and turbulence they create, can you encounter the Authentic You. Can discover.
Like ocean waves, superficially… the chaos happening in your upper layer, constant diversions, this and that, all the fraud, riots, problems… only if you cross all this and go a little inside into silence, can you meet your Authentic Self, who you are.
Create a settling space of supreme peace first. Allow thoughts to settle without constant distraction.
See… liberate yourself from the compulsion that every second of your life must be filled with something. That is a big Prison, Sir. Prison. See, there is a compulsion that every second of your life must be filled with something… that is a very big Prison.
That is why, always doing that Doom Scrolling. Messaging and Scrolling. Chasing these temporary thrills. Accursed video games.
Unable to take responsibility for their son, teach him about life, tell him the high truths of life like Ramayana, Mahabharata, Puranas… unable to spend their physical lust just in masturbation… using another body as a sex toy and giving birth to a child… Please! Do not transform the mere search for lust into the act of giving life to another life.
If you want to give life to another life, if you want to have a child, do you have the time required to raise that child? Money is not the only requirement for raising a child. Time. Giving attention to that child. Do you have the time, knowledge, and patience to attend to that child in their formation years, foundation years, and mold them?
If that is not there, it is wrong for you to have a child.
Any country should cancel the license to have children for such parents—parents who have no time, patience, or knowledge. There should be a license to have children. Before getting married, one must study about creating these relationships for at least one month. Pass a course. Before having a child, there should be at least a one-month course. Only after studying that, completing it, and becoming ready in body and mind, should pregnancy be allowed.
If a conscious society is to evolve, all this must happen. Otherwise, using another person as a toy for your physical itch… do something else and get lost. Do not give life to another life.
If you give life to another life, you will reproduce it in an accursed way just like you. Giving the video game and you staying free… poor thing, it becomes a slave to it. Becoming a slave to that video game… see this chasing of temporary thrills? It is such a cruel prison. This constant Doom Scrolling. Constantly messaging. Running behind temporary thrills. Chasing temporary thrills.
Whoever it is, whatever age group, stop this. Another important thing: Protect your next generation so this habit does not come to them.
Only now… I have been saying this concept continuously for 10 years. Only this year, the Australian Government listened to this concept and banned Social Media for all children under 17 or 16 years. I have a great happiness. “Aha! Not that they did what I said,” I am not coming to say that. But certainly, this concept has started to spread, right? This Truth has started to spread across the world. That itself is a big victory for me. I started this 10 years ago, started telling these concepts.
Stop chasing temporary thrills constantly.
Listen to your Spiritual Heart. Ramana Maharshi would say beautifully: “Listen deeply to what your Heart (Hrudayam) says.”
Do not cast aside the needs and yearnings of your Heart, of your spiritual existence. Do not escape from the Truth it tells you. It will show clearly: Which is the desire that expands your true life? Which are the situations you need to avoid in your life?
Without restlessness, the desire that happens within you… Without shivering, the clear decision making about the future… Understand well. Desires without anxiety—that anxiety of chasing temporary thrills—and fears that do not give shivering… Both will come from the Heart. They will do only good to you.
The Heart will not scare you and make you shiver. “Don’t do this, pa. If you don’t do this, it is good. If you do this, trouble. It will be a trouble we cannot face.” It will show clearly. It will come clearly with knowledge that does not give shivering. That is not called fear. If it gives shivering, that is fear.
Neuropeptides & The Nava Rasa Addiction
All over the body, Sir… Emotions… The traveling of these Neuropeptides. Neuropeptides mean: Chemical messengers created by emotions travel throughout the body and store in various organs. That is Neuropeptides. Chemical messengers created by emotions that travel through the body and store in various organs.
Such chemical emotions, toxins… Any emotion that rises like a barrel, like a Tsunami—desire, fear, fear, crime (guilt)—everything is a lie. Bogus. Dubakoor. Don’t listen.
In some comedy scenes, they will say, you know? One person will warn another: “Escape and run away! Escape and run away! Don’t get caught, don’t get caught!”
Here, one who got caught, but one who escaped… I am telling you. Listen.
Like mixing through your whole body, suffocating the body and mind, giving shock, bubbling and spreading all over the body, storing in organs, and tossing you about… along with the chemical messengers called Neuropeptides… any emotion that bubbles up is a Dubakoor (fraud). Lie. Wrong. Not true.
Escape! Escape! Escape! I am speaking as one who escaped. In comedy scenes, the one who got caught will say “Escape, escape.” Here, I am speaking as one who escaped. Escape! Escape! Escape!
When you sit in this Silence and look daily… note the repeated fear patterns, repeated anxieties, fears and beliefs inherited from others.
Tasting this inherited fear… “It happened to them like that, so it will happen to us like that”… inheriting this fear and tasting it, Sir.
Just as the tongue has become addicted to the six tastes (Arusuvai), similarly, the mind has become addicted to the Nava Rasa (nine emotions) emotional turbulences. Even if there is no problem going to come, imagining that problems have come, are coming, and that we are conquering and winning over them… tasting that becomes a kind of enjoying and eating.
Eating, tasting, relishing these Nava Rasa emotional turbulences. Becoming a slave to it.
If you look deeply into your life, you will know. Truly, no fear, worry, problem, or any big trouble or challenge is going to come. But thinking as if it has come, imagining it, and conquering it through that imagination itself… gives us a big satisfaction.
More than the tongue addicted to the six tastes, the mind addicted to the Nava Rasa emotional turbulences is very dangerous.
The Story of Nandanar & The School Teacher
A small story that happened in my life. You are asking for a story. I might have told it already. In another Satsang, a previous Satsang, I have told it. Now, listen to this story in a few minutes.
In those days, they would bring this TV Deck and put it to watch movies at home. Only during some home festival, festival, or village festival times would they bring that TV Deck on rent. Not all houses had TVs then, or this Deck… the Deck to play cassettes wouldn’t be there. They would bring it on rent during these festival times.
Once in Tiruvannamalai, during some such festival… maybe a home function or festival… Generally, in these Saiva Vellalar homes, some festival will be happening always. Because large families. Joint families. And they will be tight-knit families. Especially, I am describing the environment I was born and raised in.
If you take any four streets, the person in that house would be related to me in at least three or four ways. That is why, as children, we would go and play in any house. We would go and sit and eat in any house. In this Saiva Vellalar community, all tight-knit family oriented communities… the whole community will raise a child.
What a beautiful lifestyle, Sir. Not just parents; the community together will raise the child. The community together will love. The community together will discipline. The community together will guide. The community together will protect that child. The community together will claim ownership of that child.
It is a sweet… Children raised by the community become leaders more than children raised by a single set of parents. Because they learn the habit of having sweet relationships with many people. They learn to handle multiple relationships sweetly without getting overwhelmed in the inner space.
Listen deeply. When I was young, once during a festival, a home function… maybe usually… when I was born and raised, I didn’t know the difference between a home festival and a temple festival. Because whatever it was, everyone would gather together. In those joint families, if you see… in these tight-knit communities, those four streets are equal to a joint family. Whatever happens in anyone’s house, everyone knows. Whatever decision is taken in anyone’s house, everyone will be involved. You cannot take a decision without inviting them. They will come and sit automatically. “You didn’t ask me anything? Then why am I here?”
Lots and lots of children will be there. Continuously these puberty ceremonies (Pooppunitha Neerattu Vizha) will happen. Weddings. If a child is born, the naming ceremony, the cradle ceremony… something or the other will be happening continuously.
So, in one such festival, they brought the movie “Nandanar” and screened it.
I watched that Nandanar movie… Aha! Melted and dissolved… But only after reading the full original Periya Puranam later did I know: many things coming in that Nandanar screenplay are lies. You must all know.
The Brahmin master shown in the Nandanar movie is not in the true, original source Periya Puranam. The Villain is not there at all! I don’t know for how many people this is a shock. Please, go and flip through Periya Puranam a little. You will understand Nandanar’s story. Just watching this movie, don’t keep rolling this caste-society stuff, spinning that stick. Go and flip through the original historical document that Sekkizhar has originally documented.
Anyway, after watching that movie… Aha! How much Nandanar suffered and went to Chidambaram! “I too must go to Chidambaram.”
How I functioned… I will tell you exactly, listen. This Inherited Belief. Inherited belief means: Nandanar had so much trouble going to Chidambaram. So, “If I think of going to Chidambaram, so many troubles are going to come. I am going to face all that, do severe penance like Nandanar, fight against everything, go to Chidambaram and have Darshan of Nataraja.” I decided.
That emotional turbulence, that speed…
In Tiruvannamalai, there is a Nataraja Sannidhi. A beautiful Nataraja Sannidhi in the second Prakaram. The Lord has risen with Mother Sivakami Sundari. The Nalvar (Four Saints) will be in front.
Going and sitting there… “That yearning and Bhakti like Nandanar must come to me. Only if that comes, can I face whatever obstacles come to go to Trichitrambalam (Chidambaram), go to Thillai and worship.” Going there, sitting, I am boosting myself. Charging up energy.
Sitting in that Nataraja Sannidhi…
“Kunitha puruvamum kovai sevvaayir kumin sirippum… Panitha sadaiyum pavalam pol meniyil paal vennirum… Inithamudan edutha porpaadhamum kaana petraal… Manitha piraviyum venduvathe intha manilathe…”
And singing whatever Thevaram, Thiruvasagam songs are there about Chidambaram…
“Perumpatra Puliyooranai paadaatha naalellam piravaatha naale… Pesaatha naalellam piravaatha naale…”
Singing like this, sitting and thinking… “Oh Lord, whatever obstacles come like this, just like Nandanar, I must break them all and come and have your Darshan. I must come to Chidambaram.”
Talking like this, thinking in the mind, building up the over-emotion… sitting there, after some time I fell asleep. Not only did I lean on the wall, the temple wall, and sleep… as soon as I slept, I automatically stretched my legs out.
My school teacher had come to the temple that way. He stepped right on my leg once. “Hey Sami! Look and stretch your leg! Fold your leg, da!”
In those times, Tiruvannamalai temple would be very free. In all times like this, not this many people would be there. The time when we, the local residents, the indigenous people, were enjoying Annamalaiyar alone. The 1980s. I am talking about the 80s. 1980s, Early 80s.
So, another thing in that town is, you will see your school teacher in the temple. Wherever you go, you will see your school teacher. Because it is a small town. They will be roaming everywhere.
He stepped right on the leg. “Sleeping? Not just sleeping, stretching legs towards God? Fold the leg, da!” he said.
Only then I woke up, folded my leg… “Aiyayo, did we sleep?”
Okay, right. Again, raising this frenzy… “First, what is the obstacle to go to Chidambaram? Must get permission in school. Ask for leave. Aiyo! If we go and ask the teacher for leave, he will say he won’t give. He will hit with the cane.”
In that Nandanar movie, it comes, right? “Andey! Andey!” (Master! Master!)… That Nandanar takes the beating from that Brahmin master, right? Similarly, we too… thinking of Lord Shiva, thinking of Nataraja, saying “Andey, Andey,” I will take that beating and go for sure! I acted stubborn with the teacher.
I even prepared the full dialogue of what to speak to the teacher. At that time, they were teaching me this Vedanta and Saiva Siddhanta. My Shiksha Guru, Acharya Panduranganar, would conduct classes. He would conduct classes continuously. Because I was listening to all those classes, I prepared all that in my mind.
“Why one must go to Chidambaram? Why one must have Darshan? What is the importance of Thillai Darshan?” I prepared all this.
That teacher whom I had to ask permission from, he was also a Saiva Vellalar. So, whatever arguments I should speak to him… He had great respect for my Grandfather. Grandfather was a Kulapathi, an elder to the clan, a prominent person, one who had earned good respect. Therefore, “What arguments should I tell that teacher?” I readied the full argument and went slowly to the class. Late. Late to class.
Class had started. The teacher was bent down taking attendance. I am standing outside. Standing and standing. He finished taking attendance, looked up… looked up. “May I come in, Sir? Can I come in, Sir?”
“Come,” he said. Looking with surprise, wrinkling his forehead very much, “Come inside. What do you want? What?” he asked.
I immediately… I have the full argument ready, right?
“Sir, I must go to Chidambaram, Sir. I watched the Nandanar movie, Sir. Just like in that… no matter how much Nandanar suffered, he went to Chidambaram and had Darshan, Sir. He suffered untold misery, he struggled. Similarly, no matter what struggle comes, no matter what problem comes, I must go to Chidambaram and have Nataraja Darshan, Sir. Just like they beat that Nandanar, you hit me whatever you want, Sir. I am ready to take it. But give permission to go to Chidambaram, Sir.”
I stretched my hand out, ready. The mind voice was ready inside to say “Andey! Andey!”
That teacher took the stick… in those days there would be a stick in schools… took the stick… instead of hitting the hand, he gave one right on the head!
“Accursed dog! I am your Class Teacher now? I was your teacher last year, da!”
What that means is: School started three months ago. I haven’t gone to school at all. So I don’t even know which is my class. I went and stood in the class of whoever was the teacher last year.
“Last year itself they transferred you from my class, da! Promotion. You are another section. Another section, da! I am not your teacher, da!” He gave one on the head.
For me… “Aiyayo! Cha!” Because I went having prepared heroic arguments. The whole thing failed! Went “Phuss” (flat).
“What is this?” The whole class is laughing, “Oooo!”
Because I went there ready to demonstrate a big heroism. The Saiva Siddhanta Vedanta I studied… I heard traditional lessons (Marabu Paadam)… Siddhanta Shastra is the 14 books of Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam. Vedanta Shastra is the 16 books of Koviloor Mutt. This is what they call Marabu Paadam in Tamil. Then in Sanskrit separately, Prasthana Trayam and Srikantha Bhashyam…
Having taken references from the Siddhanta Vedanta lessons I heard in traditional classes, going ready… The teacher gave one on the head! “Accursed dog! I was your teacher last year, da. This year your class itself is different, da. Go, da!”
The whole class laughed. It became shameful.
Only then I myself remembered. Three months, I haven’t come to school at all. I studied. I can say I got the certificate of passing, but I cannot say I went to school. That is the truth.
Somehow, this failed totally. Because the total plan failed, I came back.
Came back and… “What is this? Are there no problems at all?”
More than the goal of “Must go to Chidambaram,” the taste (Rasana) for problems coming, realizing them, and finding a solution to them… the taste for these Nava Rasa emotional turbulences was higher. Only when looking at this event now, I myself understand: Aha! For what do we have high taste?
Then what did I do? Even then I didn’t let go. “Definitely a problem will come. How will it go without coming? Something will be there. See, see how I solve it! See how I stand like Nandanar and solve it!”
“Inherited belief here… it must come to me,” thinking thus.
Finally, I went and stood before Thatha. My Grandfather. My Pattanar is the one who practically raised me. More than father, mother, everyone… Mother’s father, Pattanar, he is the one who raised me.
I went and stood before him. “Thatha, I must go to Chidambaram.” I was ready. He will say something else, I must argue that… I was ready with all that.
In one word… his Business Partner was with him. They are also family only. That is the one thing in these Saiva Vellalar families. The neighbor will be a friend, will be a Family Business Partner, will be a relative in multiple ways to the family. If we do a business, he will be the customer of that. Like this, the whole life ends within those four or five streets. Such tight-knit family.
Looking at him: “Hey Sankara! We have a Mutt in Chidambaram, see?”
There was a Mutt for Saiva Vellalars in Chidambaram. Not only that, our relatives and kin have been there.
“Phone that Mama (Uncle). Tell him to come and pick up the boy and bring him back. Safety. Let him go and come safely, pa. Make him stay in the Mutt, make him have Darshan in the temple, see the Mutt and bring him back. Tell him, pa.”
He finished it in one word. In those days, one had to book a Trunk Call and speak. No STD. “Book a Trunk and speak and arrange it, pa,” saying so, he finished it.
For me, it went “Phuss.” Because I was expecting the problems Nandanar faced more than Chidambaram itself.
In my face… just went “Phuss”… Disappointed. I got disappointed.
Thatha, who was bent down writing accounts, looked up… looking at that face of disappointment on my face…
“Why da, Kanna? You asked to go? I said go and come. What else? What other problem do you have?”
I didn’t know what to say. “No Thatha… you will say no… for that I can say whatever reasons… saying ‘I must subdue you, I must get permission from you’… I came prepared so much. You said it in a single word like this?”
He very casually said: “Mad fellow! I know you watched Nandanar movie yesterday. I knew you would come and ask today. I was ready only. Go! I don’t have time to listen to what you are saying now. Leave, leave!”
He finished it in one word. After that, they took me to Chidambaram. They took me to Chidambaram. Going there, worshipping the Lord, going to the Mutt and staying there, staying and having Darshan and coming back… keep it so.
What I want to tell you, having understood from this whole story, is:
Most of the time… “Most” means 99.999%… 999% of the time, more than Victory, more than Success, more than the Result… because of being addicted to these Nava Rasa emotional turbulences, many times creating problems inside the mind like a ghost—problems that do not exist—creating struggles of “I must solve it,” we are wasting time, energy, money, feeling, and emotions in an invisible imaginary prison.
This is the Truth. Understand this Truth.
I have taken and kept a total of 10 Truths to tell. I have compiled them. Today I have finished telling only two. We will see the next ones in subsequent Satsangs.
Without becoming a slave to Nava Rasa emotional turbulences, liberating yourself, look only at the Goal. Operate your life towards the Goal.
Appar Peruman says, right? “Kurikkolilaathu ketten” (I was ruined without a goal). He is teaching us by lying (taking the fault on himself). Like that, attain the Truth of “Not getting ruined without a goal,” and let us start a new life in 2026. Not a New Year. Let us start a New Life.
I bless that you all may fill in Nithyananda, blossom in Nithyananda, and be with Nithyananda. Be in Bliss. Nithyanandam.
