When people ask me whether I am god, I tell them it depends on you!

This is an incident from the days of my spiritual journey.

One morning, a master was talking to all of his disciples in the angle of feeling connected to the whole of the Himalayas. The master was loving and caring enough to allow me also into their morning session. He was asking the disciples one by one, ‘Did you practice this technique?’ It seems a few days earlier he had initiated them into the technique of feeling connected to the Himalayas. What does ‘seer’, ‘seen’ and ‘seeing’ have to do with ‘Enlightenment’ ?

We see two things in the process of ‘seeing’, the seer and the seen object.

Actually, what is happening in the process of seeing?

From the seer, consciousness takes a jump continuously to the seen, because it is not able to relax into the seer itself. Because of its restlessness, it gives life to the seen. The continuous jump that happens between the seer and seen – from the seer to the seen, from the seen to the seer, again from the seer to the seen and again from the seen to the seer – is what is SEEING. When the seer is not completely in bliss within himself, he starts becoming restless and jumps. When he jumps, he gives life to the seen. Because he gives life to the seen, the process of jumping becomes SEEING.

There are two ways to drop this process of seeing.

Whether you are stuck with the seer or with the seen, get completely stuck and you are enlightened!

The less the suffering, the lesser is the ego. The more you suffer, the stronger your ego becomes!

According to the Upanishads, as long as you think that life has a purpose and you run behind that purpose, you are an egoistic person. When you realize the beauty of the purposelessness of life, you have dropped your ego. The master is the one who makes you understand the purposelessness of life. Whatever you think of as being worthy now is not actually the true and worthy thing.

A man with ego searches with purpose and misses reality.

Death clearly shows that whatever mind you lived with has no real existence. When you realize the purposelessness of life, a new consciousness starts blossoming in you. The moment you experience that there is nothing to be achieved, that the diamonds you are protecting are not diamonds but stones, and that all your great things in life are mere toys, you will understand the purposelessness of life. Be integrated to the Divine principles which you cherish!

śrotrasya śrotraṁ manaso mano yad vāco ha vācaṁ sa u prāṇasya prāṇaḥ |
cakṣuṣaś-cakṣur-atimucya dhīrāḥ pretyāsmāllokād-amṛtā bhavanti || 2 ||

Listen. Listen carefully.

The whole Upanishad verse does not finger towards something, it does not pinpoint anything.

It is the ear of the ears, that by which one hears, the mind of the mind, speech of the speech, the prana of prana, chakshu, eye of the eye. Understanding this, experiencing this, having liberating themselves, the enlightened beings. Here the Upanishad is using the word – Dhīrāh, means, please understand, Veera is a person who is able put  the knife in the right place on the enemy and kill him. Dhīrā is the person who is able to put the right understanding in the brain and conquer himself and achieve enlightenment.

Listen, Veera is the external, Dheera is internal. Veera is micro-management of the actions, dheera is the micro- management of the being.

dhīrāḥ pretyāsmāllokād-amṛtā bhavanti |  

Whenever, with ordinary human logic you try to define God, you mess up so badly, you give birth to demonic ideologies, demonic ideologies means, which kills millions of people who don’t accept the ideology and who accept the ideology, that is what is demonic. Shift your exaggeration pattern towards something which can never be exaggerated, God or Guru, because you exaggerate only which you feel as You!

Guru is nothing but the expression of God, demanding you to shift that hope for exaggeration on Divine.

Guru is nothing but the statement given to you by God, ‘Hey, Shift!’ Guru is statement of God.

God is state of Guru. Guru is statement of God. God is state of Guru.

State just gives the statement. State just gives the statement – ‘Shift! You have suffered enough with exaggerations on you. Shift now! I am here to liberate you from this need of exaggeration, to wake you up to the reality which can never be exaggerated, which is too big. You need to experientially see something with “Aaah!” to shift your pattern of exaggeration centered on you to centered on something else. That is when Guru appears and gives you the feeling “Aaaah!” Even after Guru happens in your life, don’t miss that opportunity of “Aaaah!”, that shift. Blessed are those who experience that shift! Because, they wake up! They wake up! They wake up!

If you study the whole Shiva Purana or Leelas of Mahadeva in Madurai, everything, everything is all about just giving you the experience of “Aaaah!”, and shifting your ever-exaggeration pattern from you to him. That is all! That is all! Otherwise, how will you call taking away the two eyes of an hunter, poor fellow, because he believed you, taking away his eyes, how will you call that as love? How will you call this old lady’s food you eat and then don’t work, that as love? But it is all love! Only if you shift, you will understand: IT IS LOVE! IT WAS LOVE! IT WILL BE LOVE! When You Sit, Truth is revealed !

UPANISHADS!  Actually, just every day when I come and sit here and utter that word, “Upanishads”, the way the truths are overflowing, verbalization becomes a big job!  Finding ideas is not at all a big job; verbalizing them has become a big job!

There are tons of books and tons of authors.  But, this book, Upanishads, to tell you honestly, if I have to put it a little poetically, the words feel shy to introduce Upanishads!  Words feel shy to introduce Upanishads!  If a child asks, ‘What is the size of an apple?’, you can show like this (Swamiji gestures with his hands).  ‘What is the size of a pumpkin?’, you can show like this (Swamiji again gestures with his hands).  If the child asks, ‘What is the size of the Planet Earth?’, can you show like this?  (Swamiji spreads his arms wide).  No!  This is not in any way signifying the size of the Planet Earth!  You can show, ‘This big!’  (Swamiji again spreads his arms wide).  But, that is in no way signifying the size of the Planet Earth!  That is in no way doing justification to the size of the Planet Earth!  Please understand!  So, what will I do with these words to introduce Upanishads?  I can only pull my mouth like this and say, “It is this big!’ 

The way they introduce you to you, the way they introduce the world to you, the way they introduce god to you, the way they introduce life to you, nothing can be compared to Upanishads.  Whether the purity of the substance they are delivering, or the poetic way they are expressing, or the very sound in which they have nicely embedded the vibrations of Kundalini awakening!  Upanishads not only have a linguistic and poetic importance, meaning, they have even phonetic importance.  Even phonetically they are important.  Actually, by the religious historians classifying Upanishads under Hinduism, they brought a great respect to Hinduism.  And, of course, Hindus are the inheritors.  It is our inheritance, no doubt.  But we need to live it and share it with the world.  It does not belong just to us.  Please understand, we might have been inheritors, but it does not belong just to us; it belongs to the whole universe!   Continue reading “When You Sit, Truth is revealed !”
