Understand some of the basic truths. Your attitude towards a person decides whether you are going to be part of his public life, private life, secret life. Same applies – your attitude towards the Cosmos is going to decide whether you are going to be part of the Cosmos – public life, private life or secret life.
If you are part of Cosmos’ public life, you will be a great devotee, whatever you want will be showered, nurtured, nourished.
If you are part of Cosmos’ private life, you will be an Enlightened Being, whenever you want, He will manifest through you and bless few people around you.
Becoming part of His secret life, if you are part of His Cosmos’ secret life, then you know the nuances – how the Brahmānda [lit. the egg of Cosmos] functions.
Neither the law nor the logic defines the method of Brahmānda’s functions. Neither there is a law nor there is a logic in Sadāshiva’s functioning. There is a tremendous love and integrity to His love – need to be understood. Once you catch His love and His integrity to His love, you will understand, that is the way He functions.
Till you become part of His secret life, you will continue to have questions, stupid questions – why somebody is rich? Why somebody is poor? Why somebody lives long? Why somebody dies within few days of birth? Why somebody falls sick? Why somebody is healthy? – all this questions will be there. Either they will be haunting you or you will push them under the carpet and sit on it, whatever, but it will be there. It will be there!
Only when you become part of His secret life, you are He, He is you – you are an Incarnation. Whoever becomes part of the secret life of Sadāshiva, Cosmos – you are an Incarnation. Read More
Mohandas Pai: Swamiji, why is there conflict in families between 2 people. Between spouses, why do people break up, don’t live happily, how to handle conflict and what causes this conflict?
Swamiji: Basically, you keep somebody as part of your cognition, but you are not ready to take the responsibility for how they expect you. See when….for example when you visualize….when somebody visualizes their joy, if they do not keep their spouse and children in that joy frame, then they don’t have to be responsible. If they visualize fear, in that fear frame if something happening to their child, their spouse, is not there in that frame, then he doesn’t need to bother about what they think about him or how they hold him. When your joy frame, greed frame, life frames, has all of them as part of it, then we are responsible for how they hold us, what we stand for them, what is our commitments and relationships, what is our understandings and said-unsaid agreements. Not leaving any grey area, with the people who are in your life frame, is relationship.
Mohandas Pai: But Swamiji, this is very fascinating. Then, how do we relate to the rest of society? Read More
Mohandas Pai: Swamiji, in our lives, we are subject to so many external rules. We are told to behave in a particular manner, to live in a particular manner, to eat in a particular manner. Now do we have command over our own lives? Do we have the ability and the right to decide, what is good for us, as we seek happiness and peace in our lives?
Swamiji: Whoever does not understand the context is bound by the rule. Whoever understands the context is empowered by the rule.
Mohandas Pai: Oh…
Swamiji: Any rule. Whether it’s a traffic rule or dressing rule or eating rule, any behavior, any rule, if we do not know the context, why it is formulated, that will be binding us. If we know, why it is formulated, 2 thing will happen –
One – Even while you follow, you will not feel you are bound. You will not be feeling bound if you stop in the red signal in the traffic rule if you know the context. While you were following, you will not feel bound.
Second – All the grey area will be your freedom.
The freedom which comes by knowing the context is two end – One, even while you are following, you will not be bound. Second, all the grey area is your freedom. But when we don’t know the context, even while you are following, we will feel we are slaves and we do not know the grey area and we do not have the freedom or command over the grey area. At the end of the day, even Powers, is nothing but knowing the grey area of the Cosmic Rules. When we know the context, context of the Cosmic rules is Dharma. When we know the Dharma, even if you follow the rules, you will not feel bound and because you know the grey area, you know where to play. Knowing where you can play and where you need to obey, itself is a Power.
By defining Consciousness, Upaniṣads are asking us to align ourself again to the context.
Pure Consciousness is all-pervasive, beyond the coming and going, absolute radiant, and self-effulgent, unembodied, boundaryless whole, beyond the subtle body, woundless, muscleless, having no incompletion with the body, beyond the gross body. Consciousness is the ever pure space devoid of the dirt of ignorance, beyond the causal body, and is untouched by the delusion of incompletion.
This description, this description itself needs to be meditated. I wanted that today’s Vākyārtha Sadas should be held on: What is the meaning of each of these words? Pure Consciousness is all-pervasive, then what is that all-pervasive? Beyond Space! Earth is not all-pervasive, water is not all-pervasive; Fire is not all-pervasive; Air is not all-pervasive, even Space is not all-pervasive, then what is it, subtler than the Space which is all-pervasive? Ability to visualize? No! There are so many tons of things which can’t be visualized. There are so many things which can’t even be thought about. Then what is Pure Consciousness? When you contemplate, you will have ‘click’. Please understand, every contemplation on Pure Consciousness will give you a ‘click’, that is Consciousness for you. And if you further contemplate on it, you will have a better, and deeper and subtler understanding and ‘click.’ These clicks getting refined is Spiritual Growth. Read More
Listen! Whenever you perceive life is denying you something, just look at it from this angle. It is silver lining that makes you see the cloud. You cannot say, ‘Oh, what a big cloud!’ There is an end; only then you are seeing the cloud. Even the energy which you get to say ‘life is denying you something’, means, you want something, so you say life is denying. The very idea you want something, itself is enough proof life is supporting you! Understand, I have a great news for you today:
ANYTHING YOU WANTED EVEN ONCE, YOU HAVE TO ENJOY IT! You HAVE to enjoy it! That is law of life.
Anything you wanted even once….. If you had a subtle greed for this seat even once, in any one of the future janmas (lives) you WILL BE MADE TO SIT IN THIS and go through all the responsibilities you need to take for this; only then you will be liberated, understand! Only then you will be liberated! If you decide for liberation, then if this seat happens, it will be so beautiful. Just like how I am enjoying! But, if you act for greed, nothing wrong; it will not be denied to you; but you have to live it, you have to enjoy it! Read More
It is Authenticity makes you man. Neither the birth nor the growth of your body, or the growth of your wealth makes you a man. It is Authenticity which makes you a man.
Please listen, all sufferings, all sufferings – when I say “all”, I mean capital letters “A-L-L” – all sufferings is because you forget your identity again and again and again. All the good things are showered on you when you become authentic. Again and again aligning yourself to Authenticity is “Tapas”.
From yesterday, so many participants of Living Advaitha process, participants of Living Advaitha process have started posting in the Facebook about their inner-image, outer-image, others-image and life-image.
“Inner-image” is the idea you carry about yourself inside you. “Outer-image” is the way you project yourself. “Others-image” is how others perceive you, for which you are responsible. “Life-image” is how you perceive others and life.
So many participants who are participating in the Living Advaitha process, the teamily process through Facebook have posted. I wanted you to understand this one thing: When you are putting your inner-image and outer-image don’t try to describe in just one word. Some of the people have just put “Shivoham”, “Shivoham”, “Shivoham”, “Shivoham” for all the four. Understand, what do you know about Shiva? Describe the inner-image, inner-image you wanted to have. Even if you defined it overall under the title “Shivoham”, describe what you understand as “Shivoham”, because now whatever you describe as your inner-image, anything other than that if it is sitting inside you, it has to be completed and dropped. So the article title can be “Shivoham”but the article has to be written detailed way.
When you write inner image – Shivoham describe the detailed qualities, what you think as Shiva? Please listen. You will not know Shiva as on now, but at least pen down what you think as Shiva; let us complete all the incompletions other than your perception of Shiva. For example, if you perceive Shiva all-powerful, all-knowing, always compassionate, so now you have to complete with your ignorance, powerlessness, all-powerlessness, all-ignorance and all-violence. You have to complete and drop them. Then don’t think you will get only the three qualities of Shiva. Once you finish completing few incompletions, all the qualities of Mahadeva which you imagined and not imagined will break open as if the floodgates were open inside your system.
When you describe your inner-image should be like Shiva, what you think as Shiva, describe that. Somebody wrote their inner-image should be like eternally enlightened. Yes, great! What you describe as eternally enlightened, write your definition. Why you know? If you describe some two-three qualities which you think as enlightenment quality, or Shiva’s quality and complete with all the incompletions and drop, really the floodgate of Shiva’s energy will open in your system. You may describe Shiva as all-knower, all-powerful, omnipresent. Shiva himself may be having thousand qualities. You may be describing only three qualities. But that three qualities, whatever incompletions you have about that three qualities, if you complete and drop them, don’t think only that three qualities will open up in you; it will open the floodgates where all the qualities of Mahadeva will start expressing through you! Because, listen to this logic: There is a huge dam. There are now dams which are one kilometre in length. In the modern-day, even twenty kilometres length dams we are building. Even if it is one kilometre length dam to release the whole flood water you don’t need to break the whole one kilometre dam. Just poke one hole into the dam. One hole is enough. The whole flood will destroy the dam and come out. Same way, if you poke one hole into your thick ignorance, the “apasmara” in your thick forgetfulness. Read More
- More and more you plan, you visualize to cause others reality; more and more depth will happen to you. Your ability to be joyful, excited will become stronger.
- Quality and quantity of you feeling powerlessness would shrink day by day by causing.
- Putting the decision of causing others reality ahead of the decision of causing your reality is Sacrifice.
A few days before, I went to the banks of the Ganges for a walk. Nothing big, a very simple act: A few kids were selling flowers there. They asked us to buy flowers and put it in the Ganga. I told our Swamis who were there with me, I said, ‘For all these kids, given ten-ten rupees.’ There were only five kids; so, fifty rupees; less than fifty cents, or less than a dollar I can say, a little more than fifty cents and less than a dollar….less than a dollar. I told our Swamis to give ten-ten rupees. All put together it will be less than a dollar. ‘Give ten-ten rupees to all these kids.’ Only five kids were there. I said, ‘Don’t take the flowers, let them sell the flowers to somebody; just give them money.’ Small kids. And one kid shouted, ‘Thank you, Swamiji!’ Such a simple word. And the child was really happy…..really happy! Very sincerely the child shouted, ‘Thank you, Swamiji!’ I tell you, the next twenty-four hours that joy was there in my system! Even to my system which is twenty-four hours in the bliss of the Cosmos a child can bless and add a little more joy, understand! Neither the act from my side was with the expectation that the child is going to bless me or thank me, nor the child had the expectation, ‘If I thank them now, I will get something more’.
No! From both sides there was no plan. A simple sincerity….that’s all! I was very sincere seeing all those small kids trying to sell and earn; they are not begging; they are trying to make their living. What they will do with these few rupees given? At the most, they will spend in their school, or they will make some clothes for themselves; that’s all. From my side it was simple sincerity. Same way, from the kid’s side, it was such a simple sincerity; that’s all. I tell you, be a sincere catalyst for others to cause their reality.
I tell you, the effect of that kid’s “Thank You”, next few hours I allowed whoever wants to touch me, I allowed whoever wants to have photograph with me! I am not a guy who will allow that. Especially when I go out for a walk, I will try to protect my privacy. I will say, ‘No, don’t photograph me.’ Especially with Ganga…..it is almost like my romance moment with Ganga! Ganga and Arunachala are just part of me. My bones are Arunachala, and blood is Ganga! So, whenever I sit with Arunachala or Ganga, I ask for my privacy. But even that I renounced; the next few hours whoever came to take photograph with me, I said, ‘Come on, have photographs.’ Some people started touching my feet, because that whole area is full of Sadhus….Swarg Ashram area. It became almost like a visit to bless all those sadhus who are doing tapas there! All the sadhus started coming from their “kutiyas” (huts/shacks/cottages) and started touching my feet. They started saying, ‘Swamiji come to my “kutiya”! Come to my “kutiya”!’ Somebody gave food, somebody gave orange, somebody gave dry fruits.
They all ran to their rooms, and the best food in their room they ran and brought and gave me. It is such a joy to see sadhus giving; they are always taking. Especially, when they see some rich sadhus, they take from the rich sadhus. First of all, the sadhus who are doing tapas, they will never touch others’ feet. And when they see a rich man, they will take from that rich man. In my case, I was a sadhu…..and a rich sadhu. But they were so respectful, they were only giving me! I also was with empty hand. I spent time with all of them, had “chai” (tea) in the road-side shop. This whole thing, that girl’s (kid selling flowers) one word, ‘Thank you, Swamiji!’, is responsible! So, please understand, just be a sincere catalyst to cause others’ reality; you will be showered more than you want…..you will be showered more than you want!
The fifty rupees (given to the kids selling flowers) would never have added joy to me in any way. I can say, that fifty rupees was put to best use! If I planned and gave also, nothing would have happened. No! I can never imagine that one small girl saying, ‘Thank you, Swamiji!’, can add so much of joy to me, because I am established in the “Parabrahmananda”, “Paripoorna Satchitananda” and “Nithyananda” (Sanskrit terms indicating extreme joy and eternal bliss)! The joy caused in that girl was sincere….small kid. And the way she screamed is from sincerity; that’s all! I tell you, when you are a sincere catalyst, when you are a sincere catalyst, life goes on showering; that experience “Brahmanyam Bahuputhrathaam” just lives with you; the joy, “Brahmanyam Bahuputhrathaam” just stays with you!
I translate the word Nidhidhyasana with my own authority as “RADIATING”. Even though the word literally means “Expressing” or “Living”, I am translating this word as Radiating. It is a little more powerful!
What I mean exactly by the word Nidhidhyasana – “Radiating”?
Please understand, let your every decision every moment, every action every moment, every word every moment be aligned to what you authentically listened (shravana) and to what you authentically internalized (manana). Removing the gap between your internalized, intranalyzed great truths and your living.
If you authentically listened, if you have done Shravana, listening authentically, Manana, intranalyzing authentically, you will be radiating authentically. Nothing can be done about it! When the Shravana, listening, and Manana, intranalyzing, happens authentically, Nidhidhyasana, radiating will happen authentically.
Intranalyzing and Radiating! Please listen, your life needs to be constantly powerful. You should be living to do what you want. You should be talking to get the result of what you want. You should be talking to move the other person the way you want. You should be talking into the listening of the listener! You should not be talking fighting with the patterns of the listener. You should be talking into the listening of the listener!
When will that happen?
If you are established into your listening, you will talk into the other person’s listening.
If I have to simply translate the word radiating in a very colloquial way, “Nidhidhyasana”, “radiating” means:
Minding your business! Not wasting your life! Laziness, boredom, diversion do not have a place in your life when you are radiating. It is straightforward! “Radiating” means RADIATING! Live your life intensely. Live your life authentically. Live your life with strength. Live your life without confusion.
First thing you need to learn to radiate, for Nidhidhyasana is: Learn to think and speak with the same cognition you arrive at by intranalyzing.
Please understand, I am explaining step-by-step:
First, you authentically listen to the great truths. Whenever you authentically listen, whatever you listen will be converted as great truths by your inner-space. Your inner-space has the capability, it has the power to separate right and wrong.
In Vedic Tradition, we have a beautiful example called Paramahamsa! The bird Hamsa (Swan), if you mix rice and some other items, it will separate the rice and only eat that. If you mix milk and water and keep that, it will suck only the milk and leave the water! The Hamsa, the bird Hamsa has that power. Same way, a man who takes the right things inside and leaves the unnecessary things outside is “Paramahamsa” (Supreme Swan). If you bring authentic listening into you, you will become Paramahamsa! Anything you listen, you know what to internalize and what to reject, what to internalize and what to reject.
Authentic listening brings tremendous clarity. See, it is clarity which is really lacking in the seekers’ life. Especially when somebody is interested to get enlightened, live the life of a Jeevan Muktha, clarity is a very predominantly important quality, a very predominantly important quality! Please listen! Clarity! Shankara has written a separate book on this subject – Viveka Choodamani. The whole book is on “Clarity”. Authentic listening leads to clarity.
And intranalyzing, Manana, leads to cognitive shift. If you don’t live that cognitive shift powerfully, you will lose it! Please understand!
Powerfully living the cognitive shift is what I call “Radiating”.
I tell you, how to find out whether you are radiating or not? Simply life around you will constantly be getting enriched, that is the signal! If the constant enriching is happening, then you are radiating! Around me, whether you are six or sixty, eight or eighty, you cannot go without getting enriched! “Radiating” means, such powerful body language, such powerful words, such powerful thinking, you go on enriching, constantly winning the game of life!
I tell you, Nidhidhyasana means “having the power to live from the space of Completion and establishing everyone in the space of Completion”.
“Radiating” means, every word you utter will be from the strength of that cognitive shift, the excitement of that cognitive shift.
I had a cognitive shift when my Guru blessed me, ‘You will always be taken care of by the Cosmos!’ I had that cognitive shift. Immediately I decided to live it. I threw everything, whatever I had as security in my life – the house, family, relatives – and started my yatra. I said I will learn to teach; I will learn, teach, and learn to teach. I can say that was my purpose of spiritual pilgrimage: Learning and teaching, and learning to teach. I started my yatra, I started my journey.
Understand, “radiating” means, powerfully living the cognitive shift you experience, powerfully risking to taste the power of the cognitive shift in your reality, and proving the cognitive shift in your reality.
When I left the house, I did not want to disprove that blessing given to me that the Cosmos takes care of me; I wanted to prove that blessing that the Cosmos takes care of me. Many times, when you take the risk, you take the risk to disprove. ‘Come on, let me see, will the Cosmos take care of me? I will leave everything and go. Let me see whether it is going to give me food or not!’ No! Living, deciding to prove it, to make it into reality. When I left the house, I know it is the truth and I have decided I will prove this into reality, to teach the power of spiritual pilgrimage to the world. I tell you, the spiritual yatra, pilgrimage itself is a powerful spiritual practice. Pilgrimage itself is a powerful spiritual practice! Because I did it, I proved the power of the Cosmos protecting!
I can define Nidhidhyasana: “Living with such intensity and risking everything for the understanding you have by your intranalyzing”.
When you are radiating, enriching will happen as a side-effect. You don’t even need to bother about it! Enriching is the first side-effect of Nidhidhyasana. Whether you are living or not can be understood by the way the enriching is happening. Enriching!
I am giving you the essence of Nidhidhyasana:
First, intense thinking and authentic speaking, speaking into the listening of the listener, speaking to move the listener as you want. Sometimes we speak just to catharsise – ‘Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah…’ – and we are happy with it! No, really! That is not Nidhidhyasana. Nidhidhyasana means speaking into the listening of the listener, so that he’s moved, by your words, and living the cognitive shift you have. Only when you live, you respect the cognitive shift. Only when you respect the cognitive shift, it becomes part of your life.
The three words of Vedanta for enlightened life – ‘shravana,’ authentic listening, ‘manana,’ intranalyzing, ‘nidhidhyasana,’ authentic living, radiating!
When you radiate, you go on win the game of live, every time, everywhere.
If you observe deeply you will find out, if you have incompletion within you that day you will feel I am angry with you. When you have incompletion you will see the reflection on Me, means, if you feel I am angry at you, all you need to do is do completion with you and completion with others. I am not angry with you. If I am angry with you, then I am incomplete.
I am not angry with you because I am complete with me and with others.
