Paramahamsa Nithyananda Swamiji’s own conscious death experience in Varanasi

Let me narrate to you my own conscious death experience in Varanasi.

I always used to think that I should have an experience of death, that I should face death directly. But somehow, that thought never became a priority. For any experience to happen, the related thought has to become the topmost priority. It should not just be in one corner of your mind.

Usually on our ‘to do’ lists, we have washing, cleaning, paying the rent and phone bill, and finally if time permits, enlightenment also! No! Enlightenment will not happen if it is this way. Only when it becomes a top priority, only when the urge becomes urgent, everything around you will start aligning itself for the experience to happen in you. This is the case not just with enlightenment. With anything, it is true.

Understand, if at all you are complaining that what you wish to happen is not happening, it is because it has not become the topmost on your priority list, nothing else. Nothing else and no one else should be blamed for it. You will see that the moment it becomes the topmost priority, there will be an energy play that comes into being and it will simply happen. Until then, it will wait for you, that’s all. The death experience was not my top priority and so somehow, it was getting postponed. Read More

Strongest experience that has happened in Sri Paramahamsa Nithyananda Swamiji’s life outside his body.

This incident is from the days of my (Sri Paramahamsa Nithyananda Swamiji) spiritual journey before enlightenment.

I was near a small village in North India, a place near Varanasi, the spiritual headquarters of Hindus. Hindus traditionally visit Varanasi at least once in their lifetime. The city has a floating population of at least two hundred thousand people every day.

I was there with an old monk who had been hospitalized and was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). According to the vedic tradition, young monks take care of the elderly monks and sannyasis. As a young monk staying in that village, I started taking care of the elderly monk.

One day, while I was attending to him, suddenly it became obvious that the man in the bed next to his was about to die. He started struggling for life. I was able to see very clearly what was happening inside him. By that time I had had my deep spiritual experience or satori but I had not become fully enlightened, the realization of the purpose of my life had not happened. I was still seeking and my body was getting prepared for the explosion of energy that was to happen after enlightenment.

Several doctors were trying to give the monk critical medical care and support. The man was gasping for breath. I could see very clearly how death was happening in him. I could see very clearly how the life source was moving away from the body.

That is the strongest experience that has happened in my life outside my body. Inside my body, the strongest experience that happened was realizing the mission!

I was able to see what was happening, but I was not able to bear it.

An important thing you should know is, if you see somebody in physical pain, it will affect you only about thirty to forty percent. But if you see somebody in depression and you can relate to the person and feel the depression, it will affect you more, say around sixty percent. Further, if it is emotional pain and if you are able to connect and understand the pain, it will affect you much more, about eighty percent. The more subtle the pain, the more you will be affected.

I saw not only the physical, mental or emotional pains of the dying man, but I also saw the being level pain. It was almost like I was going through the pain myself. I wanted to just run away from there but the elderly monk got afraid and just held my hand begging me to stay. I had been taking care of him for two to three months, so he had got really attached to me.

Since a young age, I have loved serving monks. I used to take food and clothes from my house and give it away to the monks! Serving monks has always been my passion. I have always felt that this whole vedic tradition is alive even today only because of such monks. They have kept this science alive.

For doing research in any science, you need great support in many areas. For example, in the West, a lot of research happens in the outer world science because there are people and organizations to support it. If it is research on medicines, a pharmaceutical company may support the research. If it is some research related to space and astronomy, the government may sponsor and support it.

In the same way, in India, the whole country supports and sponsors spiritual science research. The whole country has taken up the responsibility to support an inner world scientist by providing him food, shelter and clothes so that he can continue his research in the inner world without spending time for basic outer world requirements. So I have always felt that it is my responsibility to take care of the monks and inner world scientists.

The elderly monk who I was taking care of in the ICU did not want me to leave because he was afraid seeing the man next to him dying. The man was going through such a hard time. It was like the whole six feet of his body was being torn apart! Imagine the pain if you have a small cut in your finger. Now imagine how painful it would be if the skin on your whole body is literally being peeled. It is something like a thousand scorpions stinging at the same time! I could clearly see the pain the man was going through.

On one side, the individual soul associated with all the unfulfilled emotions like desire, greed and guilt was undergoing terrible suffering. The individual soul wanted to stay in the body and fulfill these, but the body was tired and wanted to relax! It was a fight between the body and individual soul. It was as if the body wanted to leave but the individual soul was trying to hold onto it. If the right hand was gone, the soul was trying to hold onto the left. If the right leg was dead and gone, the individual soul was trying to hold onto the left leg. Whichever part of the body it could hold on to, the individual soul was trying to hold onto it. Part by part the body was dying. I saw that with the lower body there was not much struggle. But when it came to the upper body, the whole body was vibrating and pulsating with pain. Slowly the individual soul started moving out of the physical body.

Understand, when the breathing stops, that is the moment when the individual soul actually leaves the physical body.

When I saw the man dying, I could see that the individual soul was slowly moving out, layer by layer. I could see the soul suffering intensely when it went through the unfulfilled desires. The soul was literally being eaten by guilt when it realized, ‘I did not fulfill the purpose and mission of my life.’ Understand, you will remember the purpose of your birth only during death.

When you are born, your body travels through the birth canal of the mother, and because of the intense pain that you go through, you go into coma or the deepest unconscious state, and you forget the whole purpose of taking birth. It is like this: you booked the flight ticket and sat inside the aircraft also, but during the flight you were put in coma and so when you landed, you forgot all about why you came to that particular place! Only when you leave the place and board the flight again, you suddenly remember why you had come to that place!

In the same way, when you die, you feel the strong guilt of not fulfilling the purpose of your birth or what we call the prarabdha.

After passing through this guilt, next, all the pain experiences of your life will come up. So at the time of death, you first pass through physical pain, then through all desires, next through all guilt, then through all emotional pain and finally through all the pleasures that you experienced in this birth.

Normally, as soon as you reach the cosmic body or the sixth layer itself, you return to assume the next body, the next birth. The individual soul returns to assume the next body. Sometimes, rarely, you go beyond the sixth layer into the nirvanic body. Then you don’t come back to assume another body.

When you travel through these various bodies and experience your unfulfilled desires, deep guilt and intense pain, you decide strongly, ‘Let me take another body, another birth. When I do, I will not forget the purpose of my life and get caught in these illusive games. I will straightaway follow the path of Truth.’ But when you actually take birth the next time, again because of the intense pain during birth, you drop into coma and forget all about your decision!

Finally, the man died. But the experience left a strong scar in me. It left a very strong impression in my mind. The fortunate thing was that the elderly monk became alright and he was discharged from the hospital. I continued my journey, and after a few months, I had my own death experience and I became enlightened, thus realizing the mission and purpose of my life. My life as a liberated being started at the age of twelve itself when I had my deep spiritual experience. But the clarity about the mission, and what was exactly going to happen through my body, dawned when I became enlightened.

Declaration of Will, Science of Will

Paramahamsa Nithyananda intercepts into the first part of Shanti Mantra, which is chanted before the Kena Upanishad, in this Nithya Satsang as on 29th June 2016, live from Varanasi. This glorious declaration by the Upanishadic Rishis is the ‘declaration of WILL”” forming the science of WILL. His Holiness reveals that the one core truth that the whole Hindu tradition accepts indisputably, be they from the Shakta, Shaiva, Kaumara, Ganapatya, Saurya, Jain, Buddha traditions or any of the 6 Darshanas of Hinduism is the sacred sound – AUM, the cosmic vibration and the sacredness of ‘cows’. This Shanti Mantra or peace invocation begins with AUM, and makes a declaration of WILL, which fully integrates us and enriches (āpyāyantu) with MATURITY, STRENGTH, ENERGY. Paramahamsa Nithyananda enters into the deeper meanings of this verse with the essence of MATURITY. He defines: Maturity means being integrated to your WILL. Maturity does not mean you become handicapped; you become filled with strength and energy. Revealing the sacred moments from his childhood, He narrates how He had tuned Himself to the Sannyasa life at age 6 by declaring to His Guru and integrating his whole system which became matured to the decision of Sannyasa.

If you WILL no one can deny it, even God cannot deny it, because your Will is bestowed on you by God!

Isavasya Upanishad, the prayer is taken to the next level, you are taught; soham’asmi – even when I am praying, you and me are from the same Source, oh Source make what I want as a reality.

Now the Kena Upanishad is taking it to the next level, declaration not prayer – me, my ability to will.

Understand, just like you have various abilities; the ability to see, ability to use your hands, ability to use your legs, ability to listen, ability to think, you have something called the ABILITY TO WILL.

The ability to will integrates all of your abilities. The ability to will is the spiritual umbilical cord, connection with Cosmos.

Understand, other than God, no one can will. When we are told only God’s will be done, means actually no one else can have WILL. Only God can have WILL. If you are having the power to will, you are connected to God, you are part of God, you are Him. Understand.

The power to will is umbilical connection with God. Our umbilical connection with God is our power to will.

If you WILL no one can deny it, even God cannot deny it, because your will is bestowed on you by God. The Upanishad does not say, “ Oh Brahman, let all my energies be awakened”, no! It does not say, “Oh Sadashiva, let all my energies be awakened”, no. Read More

Akashic Readings, decoding the Language of the Cosmos

Akashic Records are the mystical energy records of all the events that have ever happened, are happening and will happen in the Cosmos.  Just as a boat leaves a wake in the water as it passes, each action, thought and emotional impulse in us leaves a trail of energy; an imprint on the Cosmic Ocean. These energy trails are recorded in the Akasha; they are inscribed on the ether. Every event that has ever occurred anywhere to any entity, no matter how tiny, is recorded in the Akashic Records. The process of decoding these energy records is known as Akashic Reading.

Mystics compare the Akashic Records to an unimaginably vast library of information. Recently, with the advent of cyber technology, the Akashic Records have been compared to a mammoth supercomputer system. The code in which it is written is beyond any language used on Earth, but the reading is revealed in the language of the reader.

Who were the Vedic seers who gifted us the treasures of the Akashic Readings?  Read More

More and more you complete all the incompletions, the more and more your perception will expand

I will enter into Isavasya Upanishad, thirteenth (13th) verse. Please chant along with me.

anyad-evāhuḥ sambhavād anyad-āhur-asambhavāt |

iti śuśruma dhīrāṇāṁ ye nastad vicacakṣire || 13 ||

 Translation goes:

It is said that from the worship of the imperishable Consciousness, the cause of manifestation [sambhavāt] certainly a different result is attained. And it is said that from the worship of the manifested, perishable entities [asambhavāt] such as gods, spirits, ancestors, a very different result is attained—thus we have heard the revelation from those wise beings who explained that absolute principle to us.

Listen.

What should be your goal? What needs to be worshipped? What should be the ultimate cherished object of you? — that question is being analyzed and answered here. Listen. What should be the cherished goal?

Please understand, whatever you cherish as goal is only worshipped by you. Worship does not mean the few minutes you bow down or the aarti (offering light to divine) you show or the food you offer. Worship means what you constantly remember as highest possibility for you; what you constantly remember as completion of you; what you constantly remember as possibility of you. If you think money will bring fulfillment to you, money fulfills you, naturally money is only worshiped by you. Even if you worship any God in any form you are worshiping for the sake of money. So money is only worshipped in this form. If you are worshiping Lakshmi for the sake of money, you are actually worshipping only money not Lakshmi. Lakshmi is only, as long as she is the embodiment of money. Suddenly if Lakshmi decides – “I am not going to disperse money to people who call upon me”, you will stop worshiping!

So understand, if you are worshiping Saraswati just for knowledge, you are only worshiping knowledge. Whatever you think as the fruit of your life, whatever you think is needed for your completion whatever you think is needed for your fulfillment, what you think as the better half of you, the other part of you… Listen. In one of His teachings, Ramana Maharishi says very clearly – it is very difficult to feel the spirituality, the social conscious awakening is what is required for you to feel fulfillment, because most of us never become sensitive enough to perceive the ultimate truth as it is. Understand our perception always gets stuck. Read More

Wow, how can I describe Varanasi!

Varanasi, Anandavana, the place of Annapurni. Only yesterday I realised the power of Annapurni’s energy field. Please understand, it is not only that she gives food, the moment you enter this space your metabolism just goes up. That is the power of the Annapurna’s energy field. Just yesterday night, I discovered it, why I feel so blissful. See, the bliss of enlightenment is always there, why I feel so blissful when I enter Varanasi? I was just looking why I feel so healthy the moment I enter the energy field of Varanasi. Because, the metabolism goes so high, literally the body is digesting the air itself. The very air is digested by the body. Body is enjoying the very breath or the energy field of this Anandavana, Varanasi.

This place is ecstasy for people who seek the higher purpose of life. See, the highest purpose is enlightenment, no doubt, but even if somebody is seeking little higher than what they are seeking. Even if they are seeking for health, they want complete health, then little higher than what they are seeking. They were looking for wealth, now they are looking for more wealth. That is little higher than what they are seeking. Read More

Jeeva Samadhi

Yes, I am back to Kathopanishad. Today I am a little balanced to speak about anything else. But whenever I enter into Varanasi, at least 24 hours, I am so full of Varanasi. Even if I start speaking about something else I will be back to Varanasi. You see I can say, this city is a wonder. Made by man, supported by God. It’s a man-made wonder supported by God. All the Gods have supported this great wonder, Varanasi. It is older than any legends, because legends are written here. Legends were created here. This is the breeding ground for the great legends. Understand, whether it is Guru of Rama or Guru of Krishna; studied in this city. Whether it is Guru of Rama or Guru of Krishna, studied in this city.

All Gurukuls were head-quartered in this city. Naimisharanya or Sarvajnapeetha, or Takshashila; much later, Nalanda. All of them, were head-quartered here, in Varanasi. Because all those Masters who established those universities, all of them studied here. Directly at the feet of Mahadeva. Sapta Rishis, Sanakadi Rishis, Devi herself studied at the feet of Mahadeva, here in this sacred city, Varanasi. So, whenever I enter, my Being responds to this city. The city responding to my presence is so overwhelming. At least 24 hours I can’t speak about anything else. And this time it is too much because the day 1 the initiation is successful. The day 1 the initiation is successful. Because kids have already started reading. The day one, first day initiation. Please understand. The kids who came for Inner Awakening yesterday first time. Getting initiated, many of them have started blind fold reading. The third eye awakening has started happening. Without any fraud, cheating, or without any looking through the hole. So beautiful. The very day, day 1, the initiation has started becoming reality. Read More

First and foremost commandment of Hinduism is THOU SHALL NOT DIE!

There is so much of powerlessness, powerlessness based focus on Death. But, if you turn your attention on dying, the powerlessness will be removed from Death. If you are waiting for Death to stare at you, you are waiting for powerlessness to overpower you. If you are staring at Him, when He is staring at somebody else, you are removing the powerlessness from Death. Understand, as a Hindu Incarnation, authority on Hindu tradition, Upanishad, and the Hindu way of living and Hindu goals, Hindu ambitions, I tell you, first and foremost commandment of Hinduism is THOU SHALL NOT DIE.

Do what it takes. Do what it takes. THOU SHALL NOT DIE—that is the first and foremost commandment for Hindus. Fools are those who die, stupid are those who plan for liberation after death, Hypocrites are those who never look into the eyes of death while living. Criminals are those who are diverting others attention also from the Death by stupid, shallow, shady lifestyles. Any lifestyle which is trying to divert your attention from looking into the eyes of Death and ability to go beyond the death, that life is shady, shallow, stupid, hypocritical, blind. Criminals are those who are promoting those lifestyles and diverting your attention from the original need of life, going beyond death. Read More

Look into the eyes of Death before He stares at you

Let’s enter into Kathopanishad. I have to introduce the subject of Kathopanishad, then the author, then the listener, and the whole thing, but ultimately I have to say the book is authorless. Even Yama reads the Akashic Records about death. So it is not his own words, he only reads the Akashic Records that is why it is authorless.

Death, the subject of Kathopanishad. Understand, death as the end of the known frightens you, whatever you know, the known people, known wealth, known good, known bad, whatever is known is coming to an end, stand still, that is why it frightens you. Listen, listen with awareness, whatever is known, is coming to a standstill, because whatever is known is coming to a standstill, you are afraid of death. Then are you happy with whatever is known and to live with it? Where is the gap? Neither you are happy with whatever is known, ready to live with it, nor you are ready to give up. Whatever is know and ready to go beyond and rejuvenate yourself. See how we are stuck? Understanding about death will liberate you from this, where you are caught, being caught cannot be considered as living. So understand, all of us know only two states in our life; death and dying. Death and dying, where your perception of the known ends, it is called death, where your perception continues to torture you, continues to torture you, it is called dying. Listen, I am introducing one of the important sacred secrets about death to you, when death is staring at somebody, decide to stare at him. Read More

Am I changing due to boredom, am I re-strategizing, re-inventing myself out of my seeking?

Please listen, I am using little tall words. See sometimes the tall words are required to tell you what I am talking about is a tall philosophy. If I am doing small talks, I can use silly words. But if I am explaining some tall philosophical truths, sacred secrets, tall words are required. Listen, giving in to your pattern compulsions are not freedom; unfortunately, the western society is teaching you, the western civilization is teaching you, the materialistic civilization is teaching you, giving in to your pattern compulsions is freedom, and they supply material for your pattern compulsions, and swindle you, rob you. Giving in to your pattern compulsions are not freedom. If you think that is the freedom, you are stupid; that is the right word I will use, you are stupid. Don’t give in to your pattern compulsions. Make seeking as the compelling reality of you. Let the seeking be the first response from you.

Let me define Seeking. Please listen, let me define Seeking.

Whatever I feel as ‘me,’ what is that? It is constantly changing, dilly dallying, sometime it feels good, sometime it is bad, sometimes right, sometimes wrong, sometimes knowledgeable, sometimes ignorant. What is it? What am I? You should not even as ‘who am I,’ because the moment you say—“Who am I”—you already assumed you are a being.

You should only ask the word—“What am I?” because you don’t even know whether you are a being or some inanimate object. The word ‘Who am I’ comes with the presumption you are a being, even that is not sure. Only when you realize who you are, you can be a being; till then, you are just only innate existence. Read More

Whatever fence you make and brand it, identify it as love, as life, that concept corrupts the truth “you just move and expand in the space”.

Anejadhekam Manaso Javeeyo Nainadhdheva Aapnuvanpurvamarshath

अनेजदेकं मनसो जवीयो नैनधेवा आप्नुवन्पुर्वमर्षत्

I will enter into the verse where God is introducing himself, Consciousness is introducing himself, Consciousness declares about itself.  It is “Unmoving”, “Oneness”, “Swifter than the mind”.

We had Vaakyaartha Sadhas on “Anejadh” (अनेजद्).  Then we had on “Ekam” (एकम्) – “Oneness”.  Now, “Manaso Javeeyaha” (मनसो जवीयः).  You can’t have Vaakyaartha Sadhas on “Manaso Javeeyaha” (मनसो जवीयः), because, it says, ‘Swifter than the mind’!  Before even you start talking, it has already gone!  Slipped!  Before even you imagine, it is beyond that!  It is like the fight between Russia and America who will reach the moon first.  So much fight!  So much money spent!  After one cheating the other secretly, finally man lands on the moon and starts walking.  Two Nairs from Kerala are saying, ‘Chai! Chai! Chai! Chai!’ – selling tea there, understand?  HAHAHA!  How you will feel?  That is exactly the way!  How much ever you imagine, visualize, using the mind, and finally reach that space, Consciousness is already there even before you imagined!
